Christmas Break

Readers may well be disappointed at the lack of posts. Apologies. I am currently out of town, where I have been enjoying a relaxing yule period, and have not been in blog mode but merely in sozzle n' sleep mode - whiskies by the fire, Sherlock Holmes and a board game sort of thing. I hope to add something new before the decade is out.

Seasons greetings to you all.

Happy Holidays. Sherlock Holmes is one of my favorites. I'd be interested to hear what you think of the new movie. As a traditionalist, it wasn't my cup of tea, but others might like it.

I saw the movie on the 27th. It was certainly unlike every Holmes that has gone before. I thought that Robert Downey Jr was watchable but the story was very unlike a Sherlock story. Then again, I should appreciate that you are never going to get the pure drama transferral of the Brett series to the big screen - Hollywood is impatient and expects action, sexual implication and comedy.

Holmes outfit was bizarre (that awful cockney cravat) and nowhere near late Victorian style of any type.

Overall, it was rollicking but forgettable fun; too simplistic, too many fragments, and far too much of a cliffhanger-we'll-die-of-shock-if-there's-not-a-sequel ending.
